Well done Alexander Thomson

 

Alexander Thomson 17 from Hamilton, ihas just returned home with a SIlver medal after recently travelling to Abu Dhabi to compete in the Special Olympics World Games along with fellow athletes in the GB Squad. The opening Ceremony took place at the Zayed Sports City Stadium and hosted over 195 countries entering more than 7500 Athletes. 
 
Alexander 17 who trains with Whitemoss AAC was only one of 3 Track athletes that were chosen to compete against hundreds of other athletes from all over the World. He won a Silver Medal in the 400m where it was a very hot and windy day, but a recent training camp at Tenerife helped him adjust to the heat in Abu Dhabi. Alexander also managed a fifth place in the 800m final and cane a credible 4th narrowly missing a bronze in the 4x100m relay. Alexander has the fastest running time in Europe from the last 3 years over 400, in his T38 classification. Alex trains with Coach Tom Graham he said Alexander trains very hard and is a World Class Athlete, he also competes at a high standard in main stream athletics too. He is the highest ranked 400m athlete at the club and is an inspiration to his training group!  
 
Alex was actually the youngest athlete in the British Squad at Abu Dhabi 2019 and to come home with a Silver medal is fantastic. He is also in the British Paralympics Performance Academy as a future Paralympic medal contender.  
At the moment Alex is putting his thoughts towards being selected for the World Juniors held in Switzerland he then hopes to go then onto the World Para Athletic Championships in Dubai in November. This is all going towards him competing in Tokyo next year at the Paralympic Games. 
 
Alexander also won South Lanarkshire disability sport junior person of the year last year
