Athlete Alexander Thomson will represent the West of Scotland at the Special Olympics 2017 National Summer Games

Sheffield will host the 10th Special Olympics - National Summer Games in August 2017 which will see 2500 athletes competing across 19 sports. The event is only held every 4 years and it is one event that everyone wants to win!

Whitemoss athlete Alexander Thomson (aged 15) will compete for the West of Scotland Region at the event as a senior as there is no age specific categories. It is a challenge he is excited about and he is looking forward to the full Olympic styled experience.

Alexander has shown terrific commitment and hard work since getting involved with Whitemoss just two years ago. Though Alexander does compete and is doing well over a range of events, he has been progressing particularly well in the 400m and 800m in recent months. Just two weeks ago Alexander reduced his personal best in the 400m to 59.69 and his 800m best to 2.21.61, both times would have put Alexander in a competing position for a medal at the previous National Games.

Well done to Alexander and Coach William Sutherland who have put in the hours at the track to make the selection happen.

All the best for the season ahead and for next years big competition!
